The High Strung Mission
We want everybody playing and enjoying live music - at school, in your living room,
at the park, in a nightclub - everywhere! Our mission is to support people who want
to make music - beginners to professionals.
To that end, for beginners we provide good quality, affordable instruments for rent
and sale. For advancing players and life-long musicians, we offer depth and
breadth of selection: inexpensive to custom-shop instruments, in all our instrument
categories, from ukuleles to guitars to violins to harps, and more! We repair
almost anything with strings, by trained luthiers with many years of experience.
Instrument "match-making" is our specialty!
Our History:
High Strung began as a repair shop on the second floor at the corner of 9th and
Perry in Durham, NC about 25 years ago. The store has changed hands and
changed purpose several times throughout the years, moving from instrument
repair to instrument building and now to a balance of retail, rental and repair. In
July 2007, we opened our expanded shop at 1116 Broad Street. Visit us and see!
